Scientists have finally agreed on the best way to improve the health of your heart – even after a heart attack - that’s safe, and which has been proven beyond doubt to work.
They are convinced that omega-3 supplements should “join the short list of evidence-based life-prolonging therapies for heart failure”, says the prestigious medical journal The Lancet.
Heart patients who take 1 g of omega-3 supplements every day reduce their chances of a first, or second, heart attack by 20 per cent. They also reduce the risk of having hospital treatment for a recurring heart problem.
The study, involving over 4,000 heart patients, didn’t examine if the supplements could protect healthy people from developing a heart problem in the first place.
As well as taking supplements, omega-3 is found in fatty and oily fish.
